A Bit About Me: Dugald Scott

November 10, 2016

Originally from Aberdeenshire, I graduated from Robert Gordon University in 2007 with a BSC (Hons) in Construction and Design Management and was an Assistant Site Manager for Morrisons Construction for several years. Whilst I was studying, I worked with High Country Forestry and Fencing and Adam taught me the art of thatching – rare skills that not many people have in Scotland. So I plan to bring this into the business with thatched summer houses in the summer.

When the housing industry went through a bit of a crisis a few years ago, I moved over to the oil industry. However, my passion lies in construction. I have been involved in some fantastic projects and house renovations including my family home in Edzell which was a total steading conversion from ruins to a stunning stone cottage which includes 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 3 public rooms with open plan kitchen living space for our family gatherings. Bring on Christmas, my favourite time of the year!

So in setting up my business, I am living the dream - to do something that I am so passionate in beautiful East Lothian. I am a grafter so put everything into a job but the beauty of working for myself is finally I can make sure I have some work life balance to spend time with my family. I have a son who has just turned four and I have been missing out on far too much working offshore, so am delighted to have taken the leap to setting up for myself.

Plus now I might have a bit more time for my lifelong passion - music. I got my first drum kit when I was not much older than my son is now. My brothers (Rory and Campbell) and I all had the obligatory bagpipe lessons, so they will be fired up at Christmas, And I taught myself the guitar and bass guitar and have played in a couple of bands and recorded albums with them. I especially loved DJ-ing and was a DJ at Flicks Nightclub in Brechin, at its peak in the early 1990's, when people would travel from across the UK for their infamous music scene! I plan to build myself a little studio in the form of an extremely well insulated and sound proofed garden room in the back garden as I was also fortunate enough to study Audio Engineering in Sydney and I love mixing music and sound recording live music, a great little hobby .

Back to business though, I totally understand it can be daunting for clients when they are looking for a trade to know where to start. So it is important to me to build a business that offers honest, straightforward advice and open transparent pricing so clients know they are getting value for money with professional, reliable and friendly service. I have totally renovated my own home in Dirleton so can bring together a reliable local team of trustworthy tradespeople such as electricians, plumbers, architects etc to assist project manage a complete project if that's what is needed. I am happy to chat if you are thinking through an idea and need any help or advice on your next steps. Feel free to give me a call 07801 945 399 or drop me an email:  dugald@fidrahomeandgarden.com.
